💡 This Week’s Gritty Thought

This last week my buddy’s six year old was asking me about bad guys. He wondered why there were bad guys and plainly wished there weren’t.

Naturally, as most conversations with little kids go, it got philosophical fast. I shared how many believe that you can’t have good without evil, and I offered how you definitely can’t have good shine so bright if there wasn’t bad stuff out there.

He ran off to go play, as he should, and I was left thinking about how we all have so much immense power to DO GOOD, do good things, with good intention, good attitudes and good energy with good people. Good grows good.

We are what we do, and how we do it. So join me and today, BE the good. ✊🏽

🗣 Quote of the Week

Good people know about both good and evil: bad people do not know about either.

☀️Wellness 🍎

I saw an article about Alzheimers being linked potentially to gum disease.  MSN article here

Whether or not we know terrifying and devastating diseases (to self and loved ones) like Alzheimers and dementia are due to this or that, I do value consideration of these headlines.  I am intrigued and fascinated with new health information, but what I invite us all to think about is what we can learn and how we can live better. Not in a neurotic, fearful way, but in a peaceful, purposeful way.

Alzheimers has been more recently called Type-3 diabetes in some health circles, highlighting correlation to high sugar diet and blood sugar response. (This amongst most things are debated).  PubMed, NIH

Harvard highlights how quality sleep can reduce your risk of dementia: read here

Again, at the end of the day, we can take pause and reflect in how these concerns and information can help us live better. Should we exercise proper oral hygiene- brushing, flossing, visiting the dentist. YES. Should we pause and avoid tobacco… probably (sorry chewers, you know it’s gross, anyway).  Should we limit processed sugar? Sure.  Should we sleep more.  Of course.

By considering how these articles and new blips can be a litmus test to our current health practices, we can continue nudging ourselves and each other to live WELL without freaking out.

📰 News & Offerings

I’m so humbled and honored to be highlighted by Police 1 in a feature showcasing Blue Grit Radio!

I’ve been reflecting on how far we’ve (yes you) have come in this project. With that, you have to start somewhere, and I’ve been listening to the first episodes which are cringe-worthy for me. But that’s how we go and grow!

I think about all this, the mission for more positive themes in police and first responder culture, health, and community. Think of the scrutiny, some of which I’m dealing with literally right now in a new way. I think of how it’s still growing, with the likes of you, other projects, collaborations, relations and more.

And as always, I try to remember to be present, grateful, and purpose-driven. And you all help me do that in such ways I could never have imagined when I started Blue Grit in 2020 or the podcast a couple years ago.  Thank you. More to come. 🙏🏽🤘🏽👊🏽🤙🏽
